Rod & Donna Black

This week we are highlighting Rod and Donna Black working with Fellowship International. The Blacks live in Edmonton and Rod is juggling three roles: assisting his team in Pakistan with print and audio-visual resources, coaching churches in small group development, and leadership development in South and South East Asia.

"Both of us have seen our roles change as we have been back in Canada. Rod is being regarded as a senior missionary much to his dismay, and the responsibilities being placed on him to coach younger missionaries, help them in their training and assist in the development of a people movement in SE Asia are growing. Donna has the opportunity through her employment to be light and life to families who are trying to raise their kids with disabilities, and to younger women in our congregation. The church sees us as people “pastoring” the congregation which surprises us – we thought everyone was supposed to do what we are doing! Also, God has placed us in a wonderful part of Edmonton with neighbours we have come to know and love. We’ve been in each other’s homes, and we’ve gotten to know their lives and likes. But the thing we long for is that they would all come to find faith in the Saviour. Somehow in Pakistan it was easier talking about religion and spirituality, while here in Canada people are “not religious”, even as they continually express spiritual needs that they may not even be recognizing. We want to have deeper conversations with them, and to find people in our neighbourhood who are open to discussing faith. Pray for us as we fulfil our responsibilities in our church, our neighbourhood, our employment and in our ministry. Pray for us not only that we would be a channel of blessing to others, but that we would grow as followers of Christ."
