Rod and Donna Black serving with Fellowship International

Prayer Requests:

Donna and Rod will be in New Zealand over Christmas. Pray they are a blessing to their son who works there.

Rod and Donna are both taking on more responsibility in our home church in Edmonton. Pray for wisdom as they learn how to do new ministries.

Here is a story from a recent trip Rod Black had to the Philippines that could be shared by the host.

"We never learned about this in seminary!" The twenty pastors were meeting for the fourth time in the LeadersFormation project, and this time we were studying some tricky topics. How do you set up a training program for future elders? How do we teach sexual issues in our church? How much salary should a pastor earn? The pastors had been with each other often enough to know that this was a safe place to try out ideas and learn from others. It was a joy to see them helping each other to find solutions.

The discussions continued into meal times and breaks, with individual pastors seeking out advice on issues they were facing in their churches. How do I handle a member blocking everything I do? How do I tell my pastor father-in-law to work less and be with his family more? How do we deal with a case of abuse in the church? We listened without judgement, asked lots of questions to help them find steps to take, and prayed with them. You know, sometimes you just feel like a mirror - reflecting the light from Jesus so that someone sitting in an awful dark place can see ahead enough to start moving again. And boy, does that ever make the job worthwhile!
