Darryl & Katie
Darryl currently serves as the Deputy Director and provides administrative support to ELWA Ministries. He enjoys serving alongside national coworkers and building relationships with them on a daily basis. Darryl grew up in Liberia as a young boy and has enjoyed reconnecting with his roots and meeting up with old friends. It’s also a joy for him to watch his children grow up in the same environment that he did.
Katie is involved with facilitating Trauma Healing groups, mostly for women. She also helps out with a newly established support group called King’s Kids. It provides a community for families with disabled children and has been a source of hope for many who thought they were alone. People with disabilities face a lot of fear and stigma and their families are often ostracized if they choose to keep their children. Recently, Katie has been able to bridge these 2 fields of service and is hosting trauma healing groups for families attending King’s Kids.
While many in Liberia profess to be Christians, it is often because that is what their family believes. Syncretism and prosperity gospel are also heavy influences here. There is so much need to share Jesus and the hope only He can give us, but also many practical needs to fulfill as well. Poverty is rampant, domestic violence rates have been incredibly high since the war, and while infrastructure is being rebuilt, that can only happen so fast and many people do without basic needs like power or running water.
Please pray that God’s name would be glorified in all that is said and done!
